The Kultur:Impuls:Zwettl association was founded in August 2010 with the aim of supplementing the cultural programme in and around Zwettl with a regular cultural programme.

The Roman cycle route takes cyclists through the Mostviertel region in the footsteps of the ancient Romans. The route combines historical sites with breathtaking landscapes and offers a unique opportunity to discover the history and culture of the region.

The Erlauftal cycle path is a picturesque cycle route that runs along the Erlauf river through the Mostviertel region. The route offers both relaxed sections and more challenging passages and is ideal for cyclists of all ages.

The Panorama high trail offers hikers spectacular views of the rolling hills and valleys of the Mostviertel region. The route leads through idyllic villages and along orchards and is suitable for both experienced hikers and leisurely strollers.

The Ysperklamm is a hidden natural gem in the Mostviertel region that delights hikers with its impressive rock formations and unspoilt nature. The hiking trails lead through dense forests and along streams and offer a unique experience of nature.

Lake Erlaufsee offers numerous hiking trails that lead around the lake and provide breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The well-marked routes are ideal for walks and hikes for the whole family.

The Three Lakes Tour in Lunz is a picturesque hiking route that leads to three beautiful lakes: Lake Lunz, Lake Mittersee and Lake Obersee. The tour offers breathtaking views and is ideal for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts.

The Ötscher Tormäuer Nature Park offers hikers a variety of routes through a breathtaking landscape of mountains, gorges and waterfalls. The park is a paradise for nature lovers and offers both easy walks and challenging mountain hikes.

The hikes through the Erlaufcanyon offer breathtaking views of the dramatic landscape and fascinating rock formations. The well-maintained hiking trails allow visitors to enjoy the wild beauty of the gorge to the full.

The Mariazell Basilica is one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations in Austria and impresses with its magnificent baroque architecture and the famous statue of St Mary. The basilica is not only a spiritual place, but also a cultural highlight that attracts visitors from all over the world.

The Maria Taferl pilgrimage basilica is an important religious centre in the Mostviertel region and attracts pilgrims from all over Austria. The SEEbühne in Neumarkt an der Ybbs is a unique venue that floats on the water of Lake Ybbs. Concerts, theatre performances and other cultural events regularly take place here, which visitors can enjoy in a breathtaking setting.

Clam Castle is an impressive medieval castle perched on a hill above the Klam gorge. The castle is still inhabited today and can be visited as part of a guided tour. Halmer ostrich farm is a unique farm where visitors can discover the fascinating world of ostriches. The farm offers guided tours where you can learn more about the keeping and breeding of these impressive animals. A farm shop with regional products rounds off the experience.

The Reinsberg Castle Arena is a historic castle ruin that is now used as a venue for concerts, theatre performances and other cultural events. The unique backdrop of the castle gives every event a special flair and attracts visitors from near and far.

The FeRRUM Ybbsitz world of experience is an interactive museum dedicated to the history and technology of iron processing. Visitors can take part in exciting workshops and experience the fascinating world of iron up close. The exhibition offers interesting insights into the region for both adults and children.

The Mostelleria show distillery invites visitors to discover the art of cider production. During a guided tour of the distillery, you can learn more about the cider production process and taste the various products. The Mostelleria is a must for anyone who wants to learn about the culinary traditions of the Mostviertel region.

The Ybbs-Persenbeug visitor power station is the oldest Danube power station in Austria and offers exciting insights into the world of hydropower. During a guided tour, visitors can familiarise themselves with the impressive technology of the power plant and learn more about the history of energy generation on the Danube.

The Purgstall bowling centre is the perfect place for an entertaining evening with friends or family. With several bowling lanes, billiard tables and a cosy bar, the centre offers fun and relaxation for young and old. Regular events and tournaments provide variety and exciting challenges.

The trail is 12.16 km long, altitude: 110 metres, duration approx. 3.5 hours

Photographer Günter Schön shows photographs and water vibration photographs with a regional reference on 13 themed panels. The starting point of the hike is the picturesque main square of Schön’s hometown of Zwettl, which features a fountain designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The destination is the village museum in Roiten, where environmental artist Hundertwasser lived for years in the old Hahnsäge and practised his closeness to nature in the simplest possible way.

The trail is 13.83 km long, altitude: 195 metres, duration approx. 3.5 hours

This tour leads through the Zwettltal to Syrafeld, crossing the Moidramswald. The tour then follows the Kamp from the Gschwendtmühle back to Zwettl.

The trail is 9.18 km long, elevation gain: 193 metres, duration approx. 2.5 hours

On 17 February 2000 it was decided in a ceremonial act to designate Zwettl as a brewing town. The Zwettl Beer Trail now connects many places that are important for the brewery and its production.

The KULTURZWICKL association is closely linked to the brewing town of Zwettl and stands for unfiltered cultural enjoyment – furthermore, it is intended to represent an additional “Zwickel” in the Zwettl cultural scene. Focussing on singer/songwriters, cabaret/music cabaret, children’s concerts and concerts of various musical genres, it appeals to a wide audience.

The herbal hiking trail from Sprögnitz to Engelbrechts and back via the Aubergwarte presents the cultural history of herbal knowledge on 16 boards along the way, based on the traditions of SONNENTOR.

Art and culture have a long tradition in the Waldviertel. With the Waldviertler Kammerbühne there is now the opportunity to get a taste of big theatre in a small town. A bit like theatre in Josefstadt, but in the Waldviertel.

Opened in 2003, the wine experience world is located in Lower Austria’s largest wine-growing community, Langenlois. For wine enthusiasts and those who want to become one!

Nestled in the rolling hills of the southern Waldviertel, just a few kilometres from Krems and Langenlois, garden enthusiasts and nature lovers will find plenty of inspiration for designing their own garden.

Surrounded by forests, ponds and moors lies Heidenreichstein – a small town in the north-west of the Waldviertel. Nestled in this picturesque landscape is the KÄSEMACHERWELT, where the world of cheese is turned into an experience for cheese lovers of all ages.

Whisky instead of bread. The Haider family in Roggenreith has been pursuing this idea with great success since 1995: with a basic range of 5 whiskies, the distillery also stands out internationally – J.H. Whisky is pure individuality and regionality.

In Armschlag you can experience a huge collection of unique and superlative items centred around the delicate poppy flower: for almost 30 years, the “poppy village” has been delighting visitors with its giant willow poppy capsules, a unique “MOHNument”, the longest poppy flower painting and the largest collection of poppy mills.

Inspired by the Waldviertel nature, the climatic and structural characteristics of this unique region in north-eastern Austria, Waldland has created a diverse production and processing company for incomparable plant and animal specialities.

There is a lot going on in the SONNENTOR experience of the Waldviertel herb specialist, because SONNENTOR not only delights over 40,000 visitors every year with herbs and spices from organic farming, which are combined with great attention to detail and according to innovative recipes, but also brings new products and experiences to the company site in the herb village of Sprögnitz year after year.

The best Waldviertel hops and high-quality malt from Waldviertel brewing barley – these are the ingredients for the high-quality Zwettler beers. In the soft, crystal-clear brewing water, these unfold their unmistakable flavours and make the beers from the Zwettler private brewery an ‘exuberant’ taste experience. And of course there is another very special ingredient: 300 years of tradition and the innovative spirit of the Schwarz brewery family.

The Ysperklamm, a natural monument since 1952, impresses with its natural spectacle of clear water rushing over high cliffs and through narrow gorges, impressive waterfalls and spectacular rock formations.

When you see the Lohnbach for the first time, you don’t want to believe that it really is a stream. Especially where its water plunges eight metres into the depths over several sections, it’s more like a river. But whether it’s a stream or a river, the Lohnbachfall in the wild and romantic landscape of the Waldviertel is a must-see when visiting the region.

The 4.5 km² reservoir, which was created in the 1950s, has become a popular recreational area in the Waldviertel thanks to its wide range of leisure and sports facilities.

Bizarre granite formations, tranquil forests, gentle meadows and heathland, hidden forest ponds and natural stream valleys: let yourself be inspired by the bizarre rock formations and the species-rich cultural landscape in the Blockheide Nature Park, which is best enjoyed from the viewing tower at a height of 30 metres!

For over 40 years, Grafenegg Castle has stood for atmospheric events in a special ambience and every year the Grafenegg Advent and the music festival held every summer delight visitors with numerous cultural highlights.

High up in the north-west of the Waldviertel, close to the border with Bohemia, sits the Renaissance castle of Weitra. In all its splendour, it attracts everyone’s attention at the highest point of Austria’s oldest brewing town. Whether through 800 years of history, the ancient art of brewing or a colourful programme of events: here in the border region you can enjoy boundless variety.

High on a mighty rock above the Kamptal, visible from afar, sits the Renaissance Castle Rosenburg. The daily free flight demonstrations at the falconry centre are a unique and unforgettable experience.

In the midst of idyllic forests, river landscapes and fields, Zwettl Abbey invites visitors to stop and reflect – here, pastoral care is a priority. The medieval Cistercian monastery impresses with its power and tranquillity, while the gardens transport you straight to paradise. The abbey church, the Egedacher organ and the tower façade draw your gaze towards the heavens – all in all, a marvellous cultural gem.

Half surrounded by water, Heidenreichstein Castle rises into the sky north-east of Gmünd: as Austria’s largest medieval moated castle, it transports you across two drawbridges into a world from another time. Or to a day in another world. Either way, one thing is certain: pure fascination for the whole family!

The route is approx. 423 km long, altitude: 2,549 metres

The top cycle route from Krems an der Donau to Stopfenreuth. This attractive and highly recommended cycle route follows a total of three rivers and crosses the Waldviertel and Weinviertel regions to the Czech border. Peace, tranquillity and idyllic scenery as well as several catering establishments make this tour an experience.

The trail is approx. 31.4 km long, altitude: 353 metres, duration approx. 2.5 hours

This mountain bike tour is a little more challenging. Start in Zwettl and cycle via Gschwendtmühle to Roiten and on to Frankenreith. From Großgöttfritz you then cycle via Rohrenreith to Ratschenhof and back to Zwettl.

One of the oldest castles in the north-west of the Waldviertel region stands proudly and stylishly on a granite hill in the valley of the Kleiner Kamp. Rappottenstein Castle tells of the interplay of the forces of “nature and man”, of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Here you are not just taking a walk, but embarking on an unforgettable journey.

The trail is approx. 13.4 km long, altitude: 165 metres, duration approx. 1.5 hours

The mountain bike tour starts in Zwettl and leads via the Gschwendtmühle and Syrafeld back to Zwettl.

The route is approx. 25 km long, altitude: 500 metres, duration approx. 1.5 hours

The Zwettl cycle paths each start at Dreifaltigkeitsplatz in the centre of Zwettl. From there, you cycle via Moidrams and Waldhams to Jahrings and then on to Kleinmeinharts. You then continue to Schwarzteich and Niederneustift until you reach Rosenau Castle, where you continue to Negers. Finally, you cycle from Schickendorf via Demutsgraben back to Zwettl.

The trail is approx. 28 km long, elevation gain: 410 metres, duration approx. 1.5 hours

You start again at Dreifaltigkeitsplatz in the centre of Zwettl. Then you cycle via Oberhof and Raschenhof towards Rudmannser Teich and on to Kleehof and Friedersbach. From Mitterreith, the route continues to the reservoir and Edelhof, from where you reach Zwettl Abbey. Finally, the cycle path leads to Neumühle and via Traunerhäusel and Oberhof back to Zwettl.

Lake Lunz is a picturesque mountain lake that is perfect for a relaxing day trip. Surrounded by a breathtaking mountain backdrop, the lake offers numerous leisure activities such as swimming, boating and hiking. In summer, cultural events such as open-air concerts are also held here, providing visitors with unforgettable experiences.

The Wieselburg brewery is one of the best-known breweries in the Mostviertel region and has been producing high-quality beers for over 300 years. Visitors can take part in guided tours where they can learn more about the history of the brewery and the brewing process. A tasting of the different types of beer rounds off the experience.

The Haubiversum is a bakery experience that immerses visitors in the world of baking. Here you can look over the shoulders of the master bakers, take part in baking courses and sample the freshly baked delicacies. The Haubiversum is an ideal place for families and anyone who wants to experience the craft of baking up close.
