The Kultur:Impuls:Zwettl association was founded in August 2010 with the aim of supplementing the cultural programme in and around Zwettl with a regular cultural programme.

The KULTURZWICKL association is closely linked to the brewing town of Zwettl and stands for unfiltered cultural enjoyment – furthermore, it is intended to represent an additional “Zwickel” in the Zwettl cultural scene. Focussing on singer/songwriters, cabaret/music cabaret, children’s concerts and concerts of various musical genres, it appeals to a wide audience.

Art and culture have a long tradition in the Waldviertel. With the Waldviertler Kammerbühne there is now the opportunity to get a taste of big theatre in a small town. A bit like theatre in Josefstadt, but in the Waldviertel.

Opened in 2003, the wine experience world is located in Lower Austria’s largest wine-growing community, Langenlois. For wine enthusiasts and those who want to become one!

Nestled in the rolling hills of the southern Waldviertel, just a few kilometres from Krems and Langenlois, garden enthusiasts and nature lovers will find plenty of inspiration for designing their own garden.

Surrounded by forests, ponds and moors lies Heidenreichstein – a small town in the north-west of the Waldviertel. Nestled in this picturesque landscape is the KÄSEMACHERWELT, where the world of cheese is turned into an experience for cheese lovers of all ages.

Whisky instead of bread. The Haider family in Roggenreith has been pursuing this idea with great success since 1995: with a basic range of 5 whiskies, the distillery also stands out internationally – J.H. Whisky is pure individuality and regionality.

In Armschlag you can experience a huge collection of unique and superlative items centred around the delicate poppy flower: for almost 30 years, the “poppy village” has been delighting visitors with its giant willow poppy capsules, a unique “MOHNument”, the longest poppy flower painting and the largest collection of poppy mills.

Inspired by the Waldviertel nature, the climatic and structural characteristics of this unique region in north-eastern Austria, Waldland has created a diverse production and processing company for incomparable plant and animal specialities.

There is a lot going on in the SONNENTOR experience of the Waldviertel herb specialist, because SONNENTOR not only delights over 40,000 visitors every year with herbs and spices from organic farming, which are combined with great attention to detail and according to innovative recipes, but also brings new products and experiences to the company site in the herb village of Sprögnitz year after year.

The best Waldviertel hops and high-quality malt from Waldviertel brewing barley – these are the ingredients for the high-quality Zwettler beers. In the soft, crystal-clear brewing water, these unfold their unmistakable flavours and make the beers from the Zwettler private brewery an ‘exuberant’ taste experience. And of course there is another very special ingredient: 300 years of tradition and the innovative spirit of the Schwarz brewery family.

The Ysperklamm, a natural monument since 1952, impresses with its natural spectacle of clear water rushing over high cliffs and through narrow gorges, impressive waterfalls and spectacular rock formations.

When you see the Lohnbach for the first time, you don’t want to believe that it really is a stream. Especially where its water plunges eight metres into the depths over several sections, it’s more like a river. But whether it’s a stream or a river, the Lohnbachfall in the wild and romantic landscape of the Waldviertel is a must-see when visiting the region.

The 4.5 km² reservoir, which was created in the 1950s, has become a popular recreational area in the Waldviertel thanks to its wide range of leisure and sports facilities.

Bizarre granite formations, tranquil forests, gentle meadows and heathland, hidden forest ponds and natural stream valleys: let yourself be inspired by the bizarre rock formations and the species-rich cultural landscape in the Blockheide Nature Park, which is best enjoyed from the viewing tower at a height of 30 metres!

For over 40 years, Grafenegg Castle has stood for atmospheric events in a special ambience and every year the Grafenegg Advent and the music festival held every summer delight visitors with numerous cultural highlights.

High up in the north-west of the Waldviertel, close to the border with Bohemia, sits the Renaissance castle of Weitra. In all its splendour, it attracts everyone’s attention at the highest point of Austria’s oldest brewing town. Whether through 800 years of history, the ancient art of brewing or a colourful programme of events: here in the border region you can enjoy boundless variety.

High on a mighty rock above the Kamptal, visible from afar, sits the Renaissance Castle Rosenburg. The daily free flight demonstrations at the falconry centre are a unique and unforgettable experience.

In the midst of idyllic forests, river landscapes and fields, Zwettl Abbey invites visitors to stop and reflect – here, pastoral care is a priority. The medieval Cistercian monastery impresses with its power and tranquillity, while the gardens transport you straight to paradise. The abbey church, the Egedacher organ and the tower façade draw your gaze towards the heavens – all in all, a marvellous cultural gem.

Half surrounded by water, Heidenreichstein Castle rises into the sky north-east of Gmünd: as Austria’s largest medieval moated castle, it transports you across two drawbridges into a world from another time. Or to a day in another world. Either way, one thing is certain: pure fascination for the whole family!

One of the oldest castles in the north-west of the Waldviertel region stands proudly and stylishly on a granite hill in the valley of the Kleiner Kamp. Rappottenstein Castle tells of the interplay of the forces of “nature and man”, of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Here you are not just taking a walk, but embarking on an unforgettable journey.
